Otoacoustic Emission Testing (OAE)
The Evaluations:
- DPOAE’s – Distortion product otoacoustic emission
- TEOAE’s – Transient evoked otoacoustic emission
Purpose of the test:
Otoacoustic emission test is done to measure the outer hair cell function in the cochlea. OAE’s are measured by presenting two tones (DPOAE’s) or clicks (TEOAE’s) to evaluate the motility of the outer hair cells in your inner ear.
What to expect:
Otoacoustic emission test (OAE) is a non-invasive test. A probe with a soft plug is inserted in the ear and a series of tones are presented. The patient and others in the room have to be remain quiet during the test.
